Learning how to surf is a magical experience.  As you will find out, it can also be an extremely challenging experience.

Here's my advice: don't try surfing on your own.  It can take years to feel confident about your surfing skills without proper instruction.  You can try learning on your own but you will probably be disappointed with the results.  Surfing is way too difficult to learn by trial and error.  And a lack of knowledge can put you in serious danger in the water.  Also, there is  an entire community of surfers at each surf break that expect you to know the basic rules of surfing etiquette and frown upon anyone not obeying the rules, regardless of your skill level.

We have provided several articles for all you beginner surfers, designed to answer some of those questions you may be embarrassed to ask.

So, if you want to learn how to surf we recommend that you take at least one surfing lesson, preferably a week long surf camp at a qualified surf school in Costa Rica.  If you need recommendations This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Costa Rica surf camps can be found at most of the surfing beaches in Costa Rica.  But, how can you tell one Costa Rica surf camp from another?

Let me tell you, it can be difficult.  Most surf camps in Costa Rica are just hotels that have found a way to increase their revenues by providing a surfing lessons package.  Other Costa Rica surf camps offer very little instruction and are simply beach hostels for traveling surfers.  Other surf camps are surf schools that have worked out a deal with a local hotel to provide a package for their hotel guests.  If you are looking for a full-service surf camp that provides quality surfing instruction, comfortable accommodations and a fun, family atmosphere in which to share your new found passion for surfing, then we can help you find that too.

We want to provide you with a directory of surf camps in Costa Rica that makes it easy for you to research and choose a surf camp that is right for you.  And, let us know if you we were able to help you find and choose a Costa Rica surf camp.
